In God’s good providence, in early December we received some hard news regarding funding. Back in March an anonymous donor had expressed interest in supporting us for a full year. However, as it was October before we were fully accepted by ACU and our mission organization, along with some changes in the donor’s circumstances, they will no longer be able to support us. This is a major setback and means that we are now unsure of when we will be able to move to Lusaka. Our earnest desire is to move as soon as possible.
Shortly before hearing this news I (Faith) had started reading The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment by Jeremiah Burroughs. It’s funny how God uses seemingly arbitrary things to teach us and lead us closer to Him. This book has been such an encouragement during this difficult time of unknowns. In one passage he says: “In a clock, stop but one wheel and you stop every wheel, because they are dependent upon one another. So when God has ordered a thing for the present to be thus and thus, how do you know how many things depend upon this thing? God may have some work to do twenty years hence that depends on this passage of providence that falls out this day or this week.”
We do not know what this year, or even tomorrow, will hold, but we do know that God is faithful in all things. Through it all we trust that He has a plan, even in the midst of this disappointment, and that if it is indeed His will for us to go—which we very much believe it is—He will provide! He has been faithfully leading and directing us throughout this whole journey and we know that He will continue to do so.
Our plans for 2023, Lord willing, are to move forward with plans to move to Zambia by building a support team here in the US. We hope to leave as soon as we have reached our funding goal. In the meantime we are living at our home in Moscow ID, where we will continue to work on our house in preparation to turn it into an Airbnb when we move, and we will start homeschooling Korinne and Dietrich. Isaac has some agricultural research contracts that will keep him employed part time for the next few months.
