Dear Friends,
Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we prepare to move to Zambia. In last month's update we mentioned that we had participated in our church’s missions conference, that we had been gifted a large startup gift by an anonymous donor and that we were still waiting on Esther’s passport and the work permit from Zambia before we can set a firm departure date.
Since last writing we have made some substantial progress on the passport, but we still do not have timeline for the work permit. When we first applied for Esther’s passport in the summer of 2022 we had incorrectly entered some of the information, and receiving a letter from the State Department, we had immediately sent in corrected documents. However, somewhere in the process the corrected documents were lost and our passport application was denied. We did not receive any notification that the application had been denied and so we were waiting in vain. We recently started working with our state representative, and they were able to track down our application and let us know that it had been denied. We have now once again sent off revisions to the State Department and just yesterday, we got a call from the State Department that the passport is on its way to our house! Thank the Lord! And thank you to all of you who have been lifting this need up in prayer.
At ACU the first term of the academic year has finished and the students are on break. Which means that I am trying to catch up on grading and preparing for next term. Next term I will not be teaching any lecture based courses, but will be advising undergraduate thesis projects. I will be overseeing theses on agricultural education and conservation farming.
Meanwhile life continues, we set out on a road trip to Texas this week to attend Faith's youngest sister's wedding. However, on the road trip, Dietrich broke out with the chickenpox, and we have temporarily paused our road trip at a dear friends house in Lubbock, TX. We are hoping that all of the kiddos get chickenpox and recover quickly so that we can continue our travels.
Although, we have enough one-time gifts that we now feel confident that we can move to Zambia as soon as we have the correct paperwork, we are still raising support. The most helpful support for us at this time is continued support that will allow us to sustain our mission in Lusaka. Sincerely,
The Madsens
